5. TechDay - Plastics Joining in Hamburg

05 / 2015 - FRIMO invites customers and partners to the 5th TechDay in Hamburg, taking place on June 11, 2015, under the motto "Once joined, never separated". The variety-rich program offers industry visitors a unique opportunity to be comprehensively and compactly informed firsthand. Furthermore, the accompanying exhibition provides an excellent platform to exchange knowledge and experience in the fields of plastics welding, but also in lightweight construction, surfaces and polyurethane processing.

Specialists with extensive experience concerning the joining of plastics will impart their knowledge from different perspectives. Lectures by experts from the manufacturing industry (ContiTech MGW GmbH, Trexel GmbH), universities (IKV - RWTH Aachen and TU Chemnitz) and of course from FRIMO, and a technology show with live demonstrations at the FRIMO site in Hamburg both provide for a highly interesting mix of theory and practice.

The presentation session starts with a market overview presented by Suveni Sooriyapiragasam (IKV), which also includes current challenges, such as the welding of fiber composite components. Following this, Sönke Hinz and Helge Barkhoff (FRIMO) will give an overview of the current state of contact welding (ultrasonic welding, hot plate welding or heat staking). In the field of non-contact welding, infrared welding has become more important as an innovative and effective solution for joining components in recent years. In addition to the significant benefits of absolutely particle-free joining and the very high strength of the weld seams, this technology allows the varied demands on plastic joints in particular to be fulfilled. Therefore, the presentations by Albert Merz (FRIMO), Marios Constantinou (TU Chemnitz) and Robert Schampera, (ContiTech) are primarily devoted to this innovative welding process. The next session covers topics such as "Optimum Design" (Martin Buthmann, FRIMO), "Welding of MuCell" (Harald Heitkamp, TREXEL and Michael Auerswald FRIMO), and "Intelligent Control Technology" (Thorsten Geldmacher, FRIMO).

After a panel discussion, in which moderator Michael Thielen will discuss several issues with experts, concerning the topic "Where does the journey go", technical discussions in the "Technology Live" exhibition will round off the event. Here, other new possibilities for the welding of door panels, ultrasonic welding, heat staking and infrared welding will be on display in addition to newest quality assurance systems with infrared cameras.

About FRIMO (www.frimo.com)

Additional production and sales locations belong to the FRIMO Group, with over 1,200 employees in Europe, Asia, and the Americas as well as numerous international representatives. The FRIMO Group was again distinguished for excellent service.  FRIMO has received the SPE Awards, known as the “Oscars of the Plastic Industry”, 18 times already. In 2014, FRIMO was distinguished with the JEC Innovation Award in Atlanta for the cooperation project “Street Shark” (www.street-shark.com).The work of the FRIMO Group for the plastics processing industries includes a broad range of technologies from polyurethane processing, flexible trimming, punching, pressing and forming, thermoforming, laminating, and edgefolding, as well as joining and glueing. System solutions for large-series capable processing of fiber-reinforced plastics (composite technology) are also part of the business. For this purpose, FRIMO offers its customers tailored tools, machines, and production systems as individual or complete solutions from a single source.
