The process for edge folding with adhesives depends on the type of adhesive.
The processes differ depending on whether the adhesive needs to be activated or not. Parts with intricate geometries often contain complicated edge fold areas. Our edge fold slider designs, which we have perfected over the years, play a key role under these circumstances. FRIMO edge fold sliders close seamlessly and move independently, both vertically and horizontally.
FRIMO thermo-edge folding is a completely adhesive-free process. Heated sliders are used to melt pre-existing weld ribs on the back side of the substrate, creating a strong bond with the decor.
This adhesive-free process is used for back injected or back pressed parts with edges that are covered in a decor by edge folding. This process is great for textile decors and special material combinations, making it ideal for applications such as edge folding pillar trims.
FRIMO edge folding systems with adhesive activation allow adhesives to be activated through heat, and come in the following technical configurations:
FRIMO edge folding systems without adhesive activation use either contact adhesives or hot-melt adhesives that are applied shortly before edge folding and are already activated. Temperature-controlled sliders are used to apply the adhesive.
FRIMO edge fold systems that do not use adhesives are very efficient and allow short cycle times of under 35 seconds. Empty nest part loading and integration of punching, welding, clip assembly, or inspection are possible options.
